Tool Steel

Why do we recycle Tool Steel Scrap?

As the name infers, tool steels are used commonly as a ‘tool’ in a variety of industries. Due to its incredible toughness and ability to withstand high temperatures without losing its temper (hardness), it is largely used in applications that involve drilling, milling, and cutting.

Tool Steel is used for more hot work tooling than any other application. Tool steel scrap can show up in various forms such as drill bits, dies, and blade cutting tips. Commonly, tool steel is made up of chromium, molybdenum, vanadium, and tungsten. Each of which provides a unique characteristic. Tool steels come in different grades. Each grade has specific attributes, depending on how it is treated. For example, certain grades of products get additional chemical properties from components such as vanadium. Vanadium improves the corrosion resistance of tool steel.
